Lombard Asia

Lombard Asia is a private equity manager focusing on growth investments in mid-sized companies in Southeast Asia. The firm was formed by the former investment professionals comprising the Southeast Asia deal team of Lombard Investments, Inc. and its affiliates (“Lombard Investments”) across its offices in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City. Members of our team worked together on all of the investments in Southeast Asia of the following Lombard Investments’ funds: Thailand Equity Fund, Lombard Asia III L.P., and Lombard Asia IV, L.P. These three funds collectively invested in over 30 portfolio companies in the Asia Pacific region. We are currently making investments out of our latest fund Lombard Asia V, L.P. Our team consists of multi-cultural professionals with backgrounds in investment banking, private equity and corporate sector.

Our Strategy

Lombard Asia, through Lombard Asia V, L.P., pursues investments in mid-sized companies whose principal operations are in Southeast Asia mainly Thailand, Vietnam and other Greater Mekong countries including Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

 

We focus primarily on making minority growth investments with a range of size from USD 5 million to USD 50 million while a small number of control investments can also be made. Our sectors of focus include consumer products, retailing, food, financial services, technology, healthcare, education, hospitality, entertainment and media, logistics and light manufacturing.

 

Lombard Asia works directly with its portfolio companies and management, providing strategic, organizational, financial and operational advice and assistance.

Lombard Asia believes an important driver of our portfolio company’s long-term success is the proper management of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. We are committed to investing responsibly by incorporating ESG considerations in our investment process and throughout the investment life cycle. We have established an external communication and grievance redress mechanism to address any concerns regarding ESG issues in connection with Lombard Asia or any of our portfolio companies. Pote Videt

Chairman, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Pote was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse First Boston responsible for Southeast Asia, and a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong. In its first worldwide survey in 1994, Global Finance magazine named Pote as one of the best bankers in the emerging markets. In 1997, he briefly acted as Deputy Minister of Commerce in the Thai Government. From 1998-2001, he advised Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi (former head of the WTO) on international economic policy. During 2001-2004, he also served on the Council of Economic Advisors to the Prime Minister of Thailand.

Pote graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University with a B.A. degree and holds an M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Business School.

Surasak Khaoroptham

Senior Managing Director, Bangkok

Surasak has extensive experience in providing strategic and financial advice to many leading Thai and Southeast Asian companies. Prior to joining Lombard, he provided strategic advisory services to Thai Airways and served as Vice President for Credit Suisse First Boston where he focused on corporate finance and M&A transactions in Southeast Asia. During his early business career, he spent five years as a senior project engineer at ABB (Thailand).

Surasak graduated with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering earning first class honors from King Mongkut Institute of Technology. He also holds a M.S. degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and an M.B.A. with distinction and Palmer Scholar award from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Aongorn Somprasong

Aongorn has been active in a broad range of operating businesses and investment activities in Thailand and Australia over her twenty-year business career. She served for ten years in various senior management positions at Minor International, a leading Thai restaurant, lifestyle retail and luxury hotel management company. While at Minor, she led hospitality in Thailand and offshore, and participated in the oversight of the company’s hotel, restaurant and fashion and lifestyle business units. Earlier in her career, she served as a security analyst at Phatra Securities, and held professional positions with ING Barings, Rabobank and PwC in Thailand.

Aongorn graduated with a B.A. degree in Accounting from Chulalongkorn University. She also earned an M.B.A. from San Diego State University and is a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA).

Ekaluck Wangchucherdkul

Managing Director, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Ekaluck served as a Director of Barclays’ Global Finance and Risk Solutions group in Singapore and was responsible for originating and executing fund-raising and risk management transactions. Earlier in his career, he was a Vice President with the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Corporate and Investment Banking group in Bangkok, focused on structured corporate risk management solutions; and a Senior Vice President with Finansa Securities Thailand where he led coverage and execution of IPOs, debt restructurings and M&A transactions.

Ekaluck graduated with second class honors from Chulalongkorn University, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering. He also holds an M.B.A. from Imperial College Business School where he earned the Chevening Scholarship award from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Mai Nguyen

Managing Director, Ho Chi Minh City

Mai had over ten years of investment and financial services experience working in Vietnam and Myanmar. During the five-year period before she joined Lombard, Mai specialised in business development for leading Myanmar companies across various industries, securing new business opportunities and supporting expansion efforts for local conglomerates including Capital Diamond Star Group and YOMA/S.P.A. Prior to her time in Myanmar, Mai served in various capacities at Dragon Capital, a diversified investment group in Vietnam. While at Dragon, she researched investment opportunities in the banking and real estate sectors. At the time she left the firm, she was employed as an Associate Director in Dragon’s Portfolio Management division, overseeing a portfolio comprised of interests in more than sixty companies across various industries.

Mai received a BComm in Finance from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Kalaya Uahwatanasakul

Senior Advisor, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Kalaya served as a Finance Director at Canadoil Group, an integrated pipe and fittings manufacturer for demanding applications, where she executed capital markets and M&A transactions. Prior to that, she was a Vice President in the Private Equity Group at Lehman Brothers focusing on investments in Financial Services, Industrials and Natural Resources in the Asia Pacific region. Before that, she worked as an Associate in Lehman Brothers’ Principal and Structured Finance Group. Kalaya’s other work experience includes professional positions with ChrysCapital, where she was involved in private equity in India, and with Merrill Lynch’s Corporate Finance Group in Southeast Asia.

Kalaya holds an A.B. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College, an M.S. in Engineering-Economics Systems and Operations Research from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. with distinction and Palmer Scholar award from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Plengchat Triyawatanyu

Director, Bangkok

During his tenure with Lombard, Plengchat has assisted with the review and execution of investments in the retail, restaurant, healthcare, logistics, agricultural, light manufacturing and media sectors. He worked as a Summer Analyst in investment banking for Credit Suisse in Singapore and Phatra Securities in Thailand, and a summer intern at the Financial Institutions Supervision Department of the Bank of Thailand. 

Plengchat graduated cum laude from University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics, and a B.S. in Economics with a Concentration in Finance. He was awarded the King’s Scholarship for his studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Napol Kamthornkittikul 

Director, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Napol served as Assistant Vice President in the M&A investment banking group of Barclays Bank in Singapore, focusing on cross-border M&A transactions in Southeast Asia, and also at Maybank Kim Eng Securities (Thailand) where he was a Senior Investment Banking Analyst, responsible for M&A, Equity Capital Markets and general corporate finance transactions.

Napol graduated with first class honors in Computer Engineering from Chulalongkorn University and with first class honors in Business Administration from Ramkhamhaeng University. He also holds a Master of Science in Management Studies from MIT Sloan School of Management and an M.B.A. from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, which he attended on a full scholarship awarded by the Beijing Government. He is a CFA charterholder and speaks fluent Mandarin, as well as Thai and English.

Huy Nguyen

Vice President, Ho Chi Minh City

Prior to joining Lombard, Huy worked as a Strategy and Transaction Advisory Director for EY Vietnam, focusing on M&A advisory, due diligence, valuation, and restructuring services, and also at Bamboo Capital Group where he was Deputy Director, in charge of international capital markets and fundraising. His experience came across various industries including consumer products and retail, F&B, education, fintech, technology, media, logistics, agriculture, real estate & construction, pharmaceutical, and renewable energy.

 

Huy graduated with first-class honors in Corporate Finance from University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City. He achieved the 2nd prize of Minister of Education and Training in Research and Analysis in 2012.

Jun Meckhayai

Associate, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Jun worked as an investment banking intern for The Quant Group and TISCO Securities in Thailand. While an intern, he provided analytic support for project teams involved in the IPO process for Chememan Public Company Limited, and the sell-side process of a major Thai company involved in the nitrocellulose industry.

Jun graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Thammasat University, earning first class honors.

Bhiranat Pasurapanya

Associate, Bangkok

Prior to joining Lombard, Bhiranat worked as an intern in investment banking at Phatra Securities and investment research at BBL Asset Management in Thailand. At Phatra Securities, he provided analytic support for project teams involved in various IPO and M&A transactions.  At BBL Asset Management, he provided analytic support for investment teams in public equity investment opportunities.

 

Bhiranat graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Thammasat University, earning first class honors.

Van Truong

Analyst, Ho Chi Minh City

Prior to joining Lombard, Van worked as an Investment Associate at Mekong Capital, focusing on pre-investment/transactional analysis and execution. During her time, she was involved in analyzing, executing and closing a co-investment deal in the healthcare sector in Vietnam. Before that, Van also served as a Valuation, Modeling & Economics Consultant at EY Vietnam.

 

Van graduated with Distinction and full-tuition scholarship in Bachelor of Business along with Diploma in Innovation from University of Technology Sydney where she received nomination for NSW International Student of the Year Award. Van passed CFA Level 2 within top 10% of global candidates.
